Luck Favours Those Who Help Themselves

By Lloyd Takawira

Often times in life we are caught in a cobweb of failing because we fail to take action in appropriate time(s). Here is a story of a man who when a flood threatened a small village that he lived refused to vacate the village:

When everyone was ordered to evacuate, the man refused to leave and said, “God will save me. I have faith.”

As the water level rose, a jeep drove through the floods to rescue the man. The man refused to get in the Jeep and once again said, “God will save me. I have faith.”

As the water level rose further, he climbed to the second storey of a house, and as a boat came to rescue him, he refused to go with. He said, “God will save me. I have faith.”

The water level kept rising, forcing the man to climb on the roof of the house. A helicopter came to rescue the man, but once again he refused and said, “God will save me. I have faith.”

Eventually, the flood got so bad that it washed the man off the roof of the house. The man eventually drowned. When he reached the heavens, he angrily asked his God, “Why did you ignore my prayers and left me for dead?” His God replied, “Who do you think sent you the jeep, boat and helicopter?”

Moral: It takes action, preparation and planning rather than waiting, wondering or wishing to accomplish anything in life. Accept responsibility for your life and what you want to achieve rather than waiting for someone else to do it.
